We began our week with a unit about the creation of the world.
The first day of creation was  introduced during circle time with an empty box; the children looked inside and couldn't see anything. We then turned on a flashlight and we were able to see the light.
We learned that on the first day of creation, Hashem created light. Therefore, we had several activities in the dark with flashlight to better understand the concept of light and dark.

Discovery center: we covered the center with a dark fabric to make a dark corner. This allowed the children to see the effects of a flashlight, magnet-tiles, and window blocks on the light box.

We used white sensory bags, and placed them on the dark paper. The children made designs on the bag with Q-tips, and were able to see the black underneath. This enabled the children to explore the contrast of dark and light, and black and white.

At the art center, painting with shaving cream turned out to be a really fun sensory activity.

Pre-Math: color sorting.

Discovery center: We used fluffy cotton and blue marbles. The children were placing the items on the scale, and weighing them. The children then determined which side of the scale was heavier, and which side was lighter.
